Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles on sexual assault charges.
On Thursday in Los Angeles, Harvey Weinstein, a former boss of Hollywood who was already serving a 23-year prison term in New York, received an extra 16 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.
Prior to the decision, Weinstein appeared in court, admonished the jury, and insisted that he was innocent, calling the prosecution’s case a “setup.”
“I’m very certain I’m innocent. I never raped Jane Doe 1 or abused her sexually. I’ve never met this woman, and neither does she; we both have no idea who we are. He said, “There’s money on the line.”
Harvey Weinstein begged, “Please don’t give me a life sentence.” It’s not something I deserve.
Harvey Weinstein’s legal representatives asked the judge to impose a sentence that would run concurrent with the other because he was a 70-year-old man in terrible health.
The key witness in the convictions, model and actress Jane Doe 1, also explained to the judge how the assault had altered her.
“I was a really content and self-assured lady until that night. And I cherished who I was and my connection to God. I was eager about the future,” she remarked. “Once the defendant assaulted me viciously, everything changed.
Because he picked me that night, I believed I had done something wrong. Him treating me that way made me feel like I had done something wrong. I rapidly lost my ability to be seen by anyone, including myself. My identity vanished. I felt brokenhearted, empty, and alone.
After Jane Doe 1 testified that Harvey Weinstein abused her in a Beverly Hills hotel room in February 2013, Harvey Weinstein, 70, was found guilty in December on charges of rape, sexual penetration by a foreign object, and forcible oral copulation.
In addition to Harvey Weinstein acquittal on one accusation, the jury could not agree on three other charges, including one involving Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a director and the spouse of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Four counts related to an anonymous lady who remained silent during the trial were also dismissed.
The disgraced movie mogul is already halfway through a 23-year jail term that was handed down in New York in 2020 after Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of a third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act. The conviction was appealed by him. Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison has become the trend of the day.
