Lukaku can still make an impact at Inter, despite his lack of finesse

Romelu Lukaku goal on Saturday helped Inter Milan defeat Udinese at the San Siro for the first time in 635 days.

Since joining the Nerazzurri on loan from Chelsea in the summer of last year, the Belgian attacker hasn’t been at his best, but he’s been much sharper recently.

Although he scored from the penalty spot in the 3-1 victory, it may have given Inter the confidence boost it needs to get back on track as they try to catch Napoli, who are currently leading the league by a comfortable margin.

Since returning to Milan, Lukaku has dealt with a number of issues, but his biggest setback in 2022–2023 has been injuries.

Due to a confluence of hamstring, arm, and knee issues, the 29-year-old has missed 92 days and 18 games in the current season across all competitions.

Although he has experienced niggles in the past, the 104-cap international has never missed this much time from the field in his career, and it has had a significant effect on his form. His Serie A goal on Saturday was just his second of the year; his first came on the season’s opening weekend in August.

Simone Inzaghi, the manager of Inter, previously stated that he anticipates having a fully fit Lukaku back for their Champions League match against Porto, and it appears that he may get his wish.

The former Premier League player has appeared in seven of Inter’s last eight league games and is beginning to reclaim his best form, because Lukaku can still make an impact at Inter.

Because of Inter’s roster’s immense potential, Lukaku’s comeback does not ensure him a berth in the starting lineup. Inzaghi has chosen to set up in a 3-5-2 shape for the bulk of the season. Although the skilled finisher’s absence is sorely felt, there were substitutes ready to take over.
